Why Organize Networking Events for Therapists and Mental Health Professionals?

"A community joins together to fend off harsh and frightening realities of the world outside the walls. A community itself should provide security, trust, and honesty, and more importantly, happiness."-Analysis of Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler

Working in the mental health field can be an island that feels isolating and frustrating at times especially if you are alone.  Therapists,  Social Workers, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners and everyone in the field pour themselves into their work with clients.  The pour consists of energy, care and empathy.  Often times for those who are not in the field, it's hard to understand the weight of carrying an identity as a helper while also being someone who is need of help too.

Early in my career as a pre-licensed professional and a graduate counselor (LGPC) I felt burnout,  unsupported and at times disregarded.  I felt like I was walking down a tunnel and there was no light in front of me.  I did the best I could and I made it through but I do not want those entering the field now to have a similar experience.

My hope in hosting networking events is that I can hold the door open for those who need a connection, a colleague, a friend, consultant , referral or supervisor.

Part of using your privilege is to create space for people on the same path as you so the road can be better for those behind you when they get to that point of their journey.
